Americans are often fascinated with the lives of celebrities. From famous actors and actresses to athletes to politicians, people in California and throughout the rest of the country look for any detail regarding their personal lives. After playing professional baseball for several teams and appearing in several episodes of a hit TV series, a former athlete was listed at the top of the list of those who owe back child support payments. It was determined that he owed $276,000 in back support to his two sons after he pleaded no contest in 2011 on charges that he failed to support his children.

Over 14 seasons of playing major league baseball, the athlete was paid close to $33 million from teams in Seattle, Oakland and Chicago among others. He is also a former All-Star.

Regardless of the profession of the parent, the law requires that child support payments are made to ensure that the custodial parent has the finances necessary for basic care and to maintain the quality of living the children are used to.
